It’s June, and the sun is shining on a beautiful Maryland day. Anne and her husband Robert are just settling into their new home, and their new lives as active adults.
“Bye, honey! Drive safe,” Robert waved to his daughter and son-in-law they backed out of the driveway, heading back to their own home in the suburbs of Washington DC.
Next to him, Anne sighed, turning around to gaze into the foyer of their new single-family home at The Villages at Two Rivers. “I’m going to miss our old house. Do you remember that time when Sarah…” Anne trailed off as another couple in their late 50s approached with a smile.
“Welcome to beautiful Odenton, Maryland,” the husband (whose name they later learned to be Jim) extended his hand to Robert. “This is my wife, Sissy. We moved in just across the street last month.”
“Have y’all checked out the clubhouse yet?” Sissy asked Anne.
Anne shook her head, and the other woman took her arm.
“Well, we simply must change that.”
The two women made fast friends before they reached the next mailbox. Realizing they’d just walked off on their husbands, Anne spun around and yelled back at Robert, “We’re going off to check out the clubhouse!”
& off they went, in search of something fun to do.
Anne sighed and admitted to herself something she hadn’t yet, “I love it here.”
