Hi-Tech Ways to Stay Healthy

With the evolution of technology has come a slew of new apps, gadgets and devices. Though it may seem like they’re all just for fun, many of them are also quite practical. In particular, technological advances have brought exciting new hi-tech ways to stay healthy:

Fitness Tracking Wristband Devices: Though they’re very popular with younger generations, fitness tracking wristband devices aren’t just for your kids and grandkids! They’re excellent devices for monitoring health metrics such as heart rate, number of daily steps you’ve taken, caloric intake and your sleeping pattern. The popularity of these fitness trackers in recent years means there are plenty of options with varying price points, so it shouldn’t be hard to find the perfect option for you. Popular brands include Fitbit, Mio, Basis and Misfit.

Health-related Smartphone Apps: According to an article from AARP, 20% of smartphone users rely on healthcare-related apps, and it’s not hard to see why! If you’re smartphone-savvy, apps can be a convenient and easy way to keep track of various health aspects, such as medication reminders, chronic pain monitoring and blood sugar and blood pressure tracking.

Nurse and Doctor E-visits: If you have medical questions for a doctor or nurse and want an opinion sooner rather than later, you can sign up (for a fee) for an electronic doctor “visit.” Various sites offer this service, and it can be a great option if you don’t have time for an in-office visit or can’t get an appointment right away.

Online Medical Portals: More and more medical providers are getting on board with online medical portals, allowing patients to manage appointments, refill prescriptions, view medical records and more–all in one easy-to-access area online.

In addition to these hi-tech resources, our residents at The Villages at Two Rivers have great “low-tech” ways to stay healthy in our community–beautiful walking and biking trails, our pools, hard-court tennis courts and a state-of-the-art fitness and exercise center! Whether our residents love the hi-tech ways to stay healthy or the more traditional options, it’s easy to stay fit at The Villages at Two Rivers!

At The Villages at Two Rivers, our residents love being in beautiful Crofton, Maryland. Though our community’s proximity to Annapolis is certainly a plus, our location is ideal in that we’re only a few-hours drive of numerous day trip destinations. If you’re a resident of The Villages at Two Rivers and looking for a new destination, why not check out Williamsburg, Virginia!

Home to colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens, there are so many reasons our residents will enjoy a day trip to this historic colonial town:

Ease of access. Williamsburg is only about a three hour drive from our Crofton community, and with most of the drive on I-95. The length of the drive is perfect for that  last minute road trip. Give yourself enough time in the morning and you can easily enjoy your whole day in Williamsburg and still make it back home that night.

Something for everyone. Whether you love history, great dining, rollercoasters, or gardens–or a combination!–you’ll find it all in Williamsburg. A visit to colonial Williamsburg transports you back in time to the 1700s, where you’ll experience the town as it was in colonial days–complete with characters in traditional clothing, interactive tours and demonstrations. If you crave adrenaline, Busch Gardens has enough rollercoasters to keep you busy with a wide variety of ‘coasters ranging in intensity.

Both destinations in Williamsburg are perfect for garden lovers, who enjoy strolling the breathtaking landscapes in both colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. No day trip would be complete without great food, and both destinations offer plenty of excellent dining options as well!

Perfect for beautiful weather. Whether you’re strolling on the cobblestone streets of Colonial Williamsburg or exploring the various European-themed villages throughout Busch Gardens, Williamsburg is a magical place to be on a sunny and warm spring or summer day–so make your plans to visit soon!

At The Villages at Two Rivers, our residents love that we’re located within a quick drive of various exciting regional destinations, but that’s not the only reason residents fall in love with our community. The Secret to a Great Active Adult Community

Active adult communities–otherwise known as 55+ communities–have exploded in popularity in recent years, as evident by the multitude of active adult communities cropping up across the country. Though all 55+ communities are, by strict definition, the same–a community for residents over the age of 55–anyone who has done their research will tell you that not all active adult communities are created equal.

It’s important that the active adult community you choose complements your lifestyle and interests, but generally speaking, residents look for the following factors in a great 55+ community:

1. Ideal location. You know what they say–“location, location, location!” The best community features won’t make up for a community that isn’t located in the best area. And what makes a “good” area? That depends on what you value.

For our residents at The Villages at Two Rivers, convenience is key, and that’s why they love our location in the heart of Maryland. Situated in Crofton, residents enjoy easy access to Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

2. Fabulous amenities. They’re called “active” adult communities for a reason! Amenities galore keep 55+ residents entertained, happy and never bored. Analyze the amenities offered, to ensure it’s a good fit with your lifestyle! At The Villages at Two Rivers, residents can can indulge in our new Village Club, complete with a state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor and outdoor pool, as well as miles of hiking, biking and walking trails and tennis courts. Additional new and exciting features are underway, including an Agricultural and Environmental Park.

3. Stunning new homes. An ideal location and fabulous amenities are great, but at the end of the day you want to relax in a home you love. For our residents, that’s where Classic Group, NVHomes and Ryan Homes come in. Our builders offer beautiful homes with upgraded modern features and spacious layouts that residents love.

Many aspects come together to make active adult communities great–but the secret to a truly special community are the residents. The lifelong bond you form with neighbors and friends is truly something special, and these relationships are what make 55+ communities so wonderful!
